The GPSA Unit of Summit Health was formed in July 2018 following a merger between General Practice SA and Summit Health.

General Practice SA was established 20 years ago as the peak body for the Divisions of General Practice network. This network ceased to be funded by the Commonwealth following the creation of Medicare Locals (now also de-funded).

The GPSA Unit provides internal services to Summit Health (member support, events, training, media and communications) and external services including the Health Provider Registry and funded programs that support the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island regions.

GPSA provides greater capacity for Summit Health to broaden its service base and seek funding for services that are peripheral to primary care or located outside our core region.
