The Adelaide Hills Division of General Practice is a not-for-profit organisation supporting Adelaide Hills GPs and the community since 1996.

Since 1 March 2013, the Division has been trading under the business name “Summit Health”.

Background

Divisions of General Practice were established by the Federal Government in 1992 in response to the General Practice Reform Strategy.

GPs were invited to form networks (Divisions), resulting in approximately 111 Divisions created in Australia. Opportunities to network with other GPs, Service Providers and the Community, meant that GPs were better able to manage the increasing complexities and changes within Primary Care.

With a rapidly changing environment, the Directors of the Adelaide Hills Division of General Practice resolved to use the trading name of ‘Summit Health’ and provide a broader membership base encompassing all facets of Primary Care. This led to creating the vision for Summit Health of: Leading integrated health and wellbeing solutions, reinvesting into the community.
