About

Since 1995 Summit Health has been helping people across the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island to improve their health and wellbeing. We are a not-for-profit registered charity who assists over 150,000 individuals each year through the provision of high-quality primary and allied health care services.

Summit Health is committed to supporting and promoting General Practice within our growing communities and determined that the standard of care delivered in our region equals that of metropolitan Adelaide. Through working closely with Hospitals and Community Health Centres, our aim is to continuously improve the health outcomes of our local residents.

Summit Health services are delivered across a wide geographical area which includes Gumeracha, Kangaroo Island, Mount Barker, Port Elliott, Stirling and Strathalbyn. Our main office is in the Summit Health Centre, which is located next door to the Mount Barker District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on Wellington Road.

Background

The Divisions of General Practice was established by the Federal Government in 1992, where GPs were invited to form networks known as divisions. These networks provided GPs with opportunities to connect with other GPs, Service Providers and the Community, and assisted them to better manage the increasing complexities and changes within the Primary Care environment.

In 2013, the Directors of the Adelaide Hills Division of General Practice resolved to use the trading name ‘Summit Health’ and this name was formally adopted by the Membership in 2019.
